Description

Michael Brein's Guide to Barcelona by the Metro shows visitors how to go to Barcelona's top 50 visitor attractions by the Barcelona metro system. The guide shows which transit systems to use, which lines to take, which transit stops to board and exit, and, using detailed mini-area-walking maps, how to walk exactly from these transit stops directly to the visitor attractions. Additional nearby points of interest are also indicated on these mini-area-walking maps. An ultra-large official map of the Barcelona public transit system is also provided. Michael Brein's Guide to Barcelona is part of the world's first and only travel guide series specifically designed to show travelers how to sightsee the top 50 visitor attractions by public transportation in a variety of the world's most visited cities.

Reviews

United Airlines Hemispheres...
Sightseeing like the locals: U-Bahn, Tram, Underground, metro, bus... sometimes the best way to see a city is by public transportation. Michael Brein's maps include public transit routes and directions to the top 50 points of interest in cities around the world. Guides currently available include Barcelona, Barcelona, Berlin, Honolulu, London, Madrid, Munich, Paris, Prague, Sydney, Vienna, and Washington, DC.

American Airlines American Way...
This public-transportation guide plots fifty sites in Madrid. The map series, available at www.michaelbrein.com, also includes Paris, London, Berlin, Sydney, and Barcelona.

New York Times...
Taking public transit? These maps will help. For those who want to know where a subway will take them, there is a new series of public transit maps packed with information.

New York Post...
If you want to get to know a city like a local, it helps to travel like one, and free public transit maps don't tell you how to get to the fun stuff. For $5.95 try one of Michael Brein's double-duty city transit maps.

San Francisco Examiner...
Sightseeing by Public Transportation Map Series. Assiduous and budget-minded trip-planners might want to include these maps as reference materials for their next trip.

San Jose Mercury News...
Detailed maps of public transit systems are often hard to come by until you reach a destination. The guides cost $5.95 each and include a list of a city's 50 most popular places, as well as walking maps. The big maps are the schematics used by the cities themselves The series began with the Oahu bus system. The publisher, Michael Brein, has added London, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, Madrid, Munich, Prague and Sydney. Barcelona, Washington, DC and Vienna will be added this spring.

Consumer Reports Travel Letter...
The Metro, U-Bahn, Underground, and other modes of public transit star in a new series of guides created by Michael Brein, Ph.D. in social psychology with an interest in affordable travel. Each fold out city map directs travelers to 50 or more points of interest -- the Paddington Bazaar in Sydney, or the Planetario in Madrid, for example, all accessible from public transportation. Individual diagrams on each map help you find the attractions, with directions for the best walking routes to take once you're off the bus or train.

On the Road with John Clayton...
Another most unusual and also very clever guidebook to come into the marketplace, is “Sightseeing by Public Transportation." In all my years in travel, I've seen some offbeat things, but when I got a copy I was hooked, fascinated and wondered why no one's done this before.

Steve B, Customer...
Your Metro Map was the envy of my entire tour group. It made underground travel easy, and I certainly wouldn't leave home without one on any future trip.

Sue H, Customer...
Your maps are the greatest. I recommend them all the time.

About the Author

Author of Michael Brein's Travel Guides to Sightseeing by Public Transportation–the world’s first and only travel guide series specifically designed to show travelers how to sightsee the top 50 visitor attractions by public transportation in a variety of the world’s most visited cities. When asked, “Do you go to all these places yourself to write these guides?” he is quick to respond, “Somebody’s got to do it; it might as well be me!”
Michael is an author, lecturer, traveler and adventurer. He was born in Philadelphia, PA and lived most of his adult life in Hawaii, where he lived in a one room tree-house off and on for 12 years, betwixt and between living in a variety of other island habitats ranging from the beach to the mountains. Michael migrates annually to Hawaii, where he, among other things, likes to play conga drums under the banyan trees and sits with his friends in his favorite coffee houses, mulling over his next book, "The Coffee House Office!"

Foreign languages have always been Michael's passion, leading him to be basically conversant (when he needs to be!) in French, German, Spanish and Russian, besides English. Other languages long ago learned and already mostly forgotten include Mandarin Chinese, Indonesian, Italian and Tongan. "Can master fundamentals of any language with minimum lead time–will travel!"–he used to say (possibly if his life depended on it!) In addition to emulating the lives of primates, Michael was once a member of two high IQ societies, Mensa and The Triple Nine Society. Now, he doubts that he could pass the tests!

Michael earned a Ph.D. in social psychology at the University of Hawaii, and to make matters worse, also earned there, an MBA. Michael is ‘The Travel Psychologist’, writing a book on the psychology of travel as revealed through the best travel stories of more than 1,500 world travelers.

In a former life, he once upon a time, taught graduate and undergraduate courses in psychology and business. Michael’s most memorable experience in this past life was teaching for the University of Maryland's overseas European Division for two years, where he largely began collecting people's travel stories in earnest for his above-mentioned book.

Michael suffers from an addiction to travel, having visited, so far, more than 100 countries. He is a member of two travel and adventure clubs. Michael's dubious crowning achievement is his winning (among 77 other winners!), United Airline's ‘50 State Marathon' promotional challenge to fly to all 50 states within 50 days, earning a 'Gold Card', good for unlimited, free first-class air travel for one year throughout the United States (back in 1985).

Today, Michael works on his travel books and guides and his latest passion, his web site! As another avocation, Michael is Ambassador-at-Large for MUFON, the free-world's largest UFO research organization.

Michael will soon reside in Hawaii once again, but will continue his life of travel and adventure using Honolulu as his jumping-off point.
